The year was 1988...

...and South America was filled with incredible stories of unconquered peaks, mythical ancient cities, unexplored jungles; but above all, the promise of adventure.
This is the story of a man who worked for a multinational company that had opened local operations in his home country of Ecuador, a woman who was finishing up her psychology degree and about a dream of exploration.

The peak featured here is Alpamayo, considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain in the world. This incredible peak is located in the "Cordillera Blanca" of Peru, which is home to some of the most amazing peaks in the continent. Mr. Torres, our founder and two other passionate friends decided to climb this amazing peak. Curiously enough, during the same season, another Ecuadorian expedition was heading to Alpamayo. In this second expedition, Mrs. Beltran was tagging along, having little experience in high altitude mountaineering, but determined to accomplish her goal: to become the first Ecuadorian Woman at the summit of this peak.

The mountain, however, was declared a 'no-go' for inexperienced climbers. The length and complexity fo the route required finesse and technique as well as strength and dexterity. It just so happens that determination was more than enough in this trip, and our co-founder managed what was though to be impossible: she reached the summit of Alpamayo with an international group and became part of South American climbing history

Struck by the accomplishment of Mireya Beltran, and the elation of having achieved Alpamayo himself, Hugo Torres was in love. Determined to be together, they set out on another adventure, one that would lead them to creating a family, establish multiple successful tourism enterprises throughout South America, develop mountaineering guide and operation standards through the continent, now and to Bespoke, which is proudly run by the same family today.
